Our story begins in 1975 when Norman and Peggy Hunter took their love of the outdoors and RVing and turned it into a business. Hunter RV Center was born. Norman had a philosophy, "treat people as you want to be treated." This philosophy has been our guiding principle of our business for the past 32 years. In 1979, Norman and Peggy founded the Hunter's Sooner Schooners Camping Club as their love for RVing was shared with their customers.
In the 1980's Hunter RV started a long partnership with the Prowler line from Fleetwood. Add in the already long relationship with Coachmen, the parent company of Shasta, and you have the makings of doing business the right way. Hunter RV became one of the top Shasta Dealers in the country. Furthermore, we expanded our Parts Store and Maxine English joined us as Parts Manager.
In 1990, Norman and Peggy's son-in-law, Jim Dickson, joined the business. In the 1990's the Parts Store grew to become the largest in Oklahoma. Coachmen and Fleetwood were still business partners with us. Hunter RV was a Top Ten Dealer in the country for Fleetwood's Avion, Westport, and Savanna lines. Skyline's Nomad and Frontier RV's Explorer brands were added to our inventory. Tim Williams and Ron Thomas joined us as salesmen.
The 2000's saw the addition of Keystone's Hornet and Fleetwood's Nitrous and Orbit lines. We became a Top Ten Dealer for Fleetwood's Prowler line in 2003. Master Certified Technician Randy Langley joined us as Service Manager in 2005. RV Technician Mitch Weaver earned his Master Certified Technician status on his first try in 2006!
Sadly, Norman passed away in early 2007, but his legacy continues. Hunter RV is still owned by the Hunter family, Peggy Hunter, along with her daughter Lesa and Jim Dickson. In 2008 Maxine retired after being with Hunter RV for 20 years. In 2008, Hunter RV became the only Good Sam Authorized Dealer in Oklahoma. We continue the philosophy of treating people the way we want to be treated. Jim runs the business, Randy runs the Service Department, and Ron and Tim sell our product. Ken Akers joined Hunter RV and runs the Parts Store. We have become one of Coachmen's Top Chaparral and Brookstone dealers in the country! The Brookstone line by Coachmen is a lot of luxury and a lot of value!
2009 saw a lot of changes to the RV market. North Country by Heartland and Freedom Express by Coachmen found their way to our lot. These two brands give Hunter RV two of the top selling new lines offered today.
In 2010, our brand positioning became complete. We added the new Apex brand by Coachmen giving us a small, affordable, lightweight trailer. The Chaparral 5th wheels by Coachmen are the hottest selling 5th wheels on the market! The Brookstone has proven it is a quality 5th wheel loaded with options and a competitive price. The Freedom Express has taken off as a luxurious lightweight trailer at an affordable price and has won the 2010 and 2010 Dealer Satisfaction Index award. The North Country trailers are one of the fastest growing brands out there. In 2011, Shasta is back! Enough said!
